The Brand

Launched in 2004, Darby Creek Trading wreaths are designed and handcrafted by award winning florists. The brand was acquired in 2017 by two businessmen who saw the opportunity of taking this mom and pop shop into a national eCommerce player. Darby Creek knew they had the exclusive collections of permanent floral designs & wreaths to take this business from local to national.

The Challenge

Darby Creek was spending less than $100 per day in advertisements prior to teaming up with The Media Captain. There were advertisements running on Facebook with a low ROAS (return on ad spend). The Media Captain team knew Darby Creek needed channel diversification across Google, Bing and Facebook to drive more sales through a robust online advertising strategy

The Strategy

The pivotal first step was getting Darby Creek set-up on Google and Bing Shopping and optimizing their shopping feed.

Google Shopping Ads will populate product images after someone types in a relevant search query. The image below illustrates how many customers first learn about Darby Creek. They type in the type of wreath they are looking for and Darby Creek’s Shopping Advertisement populates. The Media Captain felt the high intent of a Google Search would generate the best return on investment.

The eCommerce strategy created by the Media Captain included a five-tiered approach:

The Results

Within the first 5-months of working with The Media Captain, Darby Creek’s revenue exceeded $100,000 in revenue and grew 129% over that timespan, a great way to close out 2019.

Google Shopping ads were converting at 13:1, meaning that for every $1 spent on advertising, $13 in revenue was generated. This allowed more money to be invested into advertisements. In 2020, Darby Creek increased revenue by 636% compared to 2019, exceeding $1 million in overall sales.
